For nearly one hundred years, Christians of the Baptist confession have gathered in Meiningen, Germany. The Meiningen Baptist Church was founded in 1905. Today we celebrate services in the Bethel Chapel, which we have owned since 1937. Every Sunday morning about 40 people of all ages gather in the chapel. Children also have Sunday school in the basement. Due to our low membership we cannot afford a “whole” pastor, so we share our pastor with another small church. Our service is based on worship, prayer, and God’s word. Twice a year we celebrate the baptism of new members with a special service and feast.
During the week a Bible study group meets at the church and another that meets at a private house. On Fridays children and youth meet for their own “clubs” in the basement room.

Five men belong to the Board of Elders, which meets monthly. The Board of Elders discusses church matters and bring them before the Lord. Most final decisions are made at general meetings of our members. General meetings are convened after some Sunday services and once a year for a whole Sunday. 
During communist times the Meiningen Baptist Church suffered. Starting in the 1950’s, the number of members sank continuously from 150 to our present 50 people. Today there are many opportunities to share the gospel with other people. Our pastor writes articles for the Sunday issue of the local newspaper. We had the opportunity to speak on the radio each morning for a week to remind people of God’s presence. One Sunday our service was broadcast to about 150,000 people over the radio. We participate in the biggest ecumenical kindergarten in East Germany, of which our pastor’s wife is the head. There is no lack of opportunities, and we summon our resources to make the most of those opportunities. We will continue to spread our message and grow. We are excited and optimistic for the future of the Meiningen Baptist Church.
