In the spring of 1998, a youth missions group was sent from Providence Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC to the small former East German town of Meiningen. The group worked with the Meiningen Baptist Church visiting the local schools and conducting special meetings with local teenagers. This trip resulted in several decisions for Christ and the need for follow-up among the new converts.

Steve Vaughn, who was one of the leaders of the Providence group in Meiningen, became especially burdened for the youth of this area. He had seen the effects of 40 plus years of communistic atheism and how it had demoralized the youth. He and Stephan Glantz, one of the youth leaders of the small church in Meiningen, decided to put their heads together and find a solution.

What resulted was the formation of Genesis International. Since 1998 Genesis has supported three Summer Teams of college aged students to go and share the gospel among the youth of Meiningen.

And to think it all began with a one-week youth missions trip.
